Leg 5 MDJS | Marathon
The good weather is back, and the Gazelles are eager to resume the competition. Before that can happen, Ludo, the sport director, holds his traditional competition briefing, starting with some “good news”. Tomorrow’s wakeup will be at 4 a.m. for a 5:30 start in order to drive the fifty-odd kilometres to the official start of MDJS Leg 5, the famous “marathon leg”.
“Marathon” doesn’t mean that the leg is 42 kilometres long (that would be too easy for our seasoned Gazelles!) but that the leg lasts for two days of total autonomy: no refuelling, no bivouac, but in complete safety. “There is no danger”, assures Ludo. The Gazelles will spend a pleasant evening together camping under the stars.
In terms of competition, teams will have 5 checkpoints to reach on the first day. The sixth CP opens at 7 a.m. the following day. The last two points of MDJS Leg 5, on the second day, will be checked off automatically. Ludo advises the Gazelles not to take the time to plot all their checkpoints right away, but to plot them as they go along.
