Leg 5 MDJS | Marathon
After a day off, spent resting or exploring the nearby souk, the Gazelles gathered at the bivouac for a general briefing with Dominique Serra, director and founder of the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc. And they were overexcited!
“I am very proud of my Gazelles”
“First, I hope you all had a nice day. Like a short vacation… Tomorrow we will be back in the swing of things. I am very proud of my Gazelles, I don’t say it often enough, your good humour, your kindness, your smiles are so wonderful. The 78% first-timers, I would like to thank you for making this edition so enjoyable and friendly. I hope your experiences during these two marathon legs will be very instructive and interesting. Don’t forget that your vehicle is just as important as you are. Be careful, there will be more sand on the second marathon leg…”
Donations for a champion
Then Dominique Serra presented an idea: “Imane Bouissafarn was the Moroccan contact karate champion in 2017 and 2018. She is looking for funding for the 2019 championships. If we each give 2 euros, she will be able to go to this competition and try for her third title.” Applause. The Gazelles approve. The donations will be presented to Imane on the day of the closing ceremonies in Essaouira, Saturday March 30, to allow her to follow her dream “And as I was sure you would agree, I already said yes!”
The Gazelles reboostées
While waiting for the competition briefing, Dominique Serra handed the microphone to her Gazelles: “Bravo for all the work at the bivouac, it was in a terrible state this morning and now it’s like new, the organizers are magicians.” The Director then reminded the Gazelles that, every morning and evening, 65 people feed the 500 or more people at the bivouac. “Three cheers for the kitchen staff!” Standing ovation, the Gazelles got on their feet to thank them. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as the kitchen staff entered the tent. An improvised dance ensued, with Gazelles standing on chairs to the sound of drums, tambourines, forks and knives… Gazelles getting together, dancing, singing… That’s the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc …
