Final preparations before the first day of the Medical Caravan
NEJJACK - NEJJACK
Cœur de Gazelles
Launch of the 2019 caravan fast approaching!
While the Gazelles prepare for the prologue and the unique experience of old-school navigation, the Cœur de Gazelles team is getting ready for its first day in the field.
The volunteers are in Nejjack for the highly anticipated briefing, a chance for newcomers to introduce themselves and returning members to be reunited.
The reunion is an emotional moment every year: smiles mix with friendly greetings, as everyone looks forward for the adventure to begin.
Marina, Cœur de Gazelles president, and Fred, head of the Medical Caravan, open this new edition by presenting the different units of this year’s caravan.
Thanks to the caravan’s sponsor, Volkswagen Véhicules Utilitaires, there will be 8 specialties this year: general medicine, paediatrics, gynaecology, surgery, optics, dental care, diabetes testing and dermatology.
The medical team will be accompanied by the patient reception and triage team, the donations unit, the administrative section, the pharmacy unit and patient follow-up.
Once again this year, Medical Caravan partner CBA Informatique Libérale is on location to set up computer software adapted to their needs.
The goal is to facilitate the work of the care providers and year-long patient follow-up, in addition to optimizing data collection and use. Computer programmers Guillaume and Benjamin will be out in the field again to facilitate adaptation to the software.
Thibaut, optician, is representing Atol Mon Opticien, which has been a partner of the optical unit for many years.
AÏCHA AND DUPESSEY, THE CARAVAN’S LOGISTIC PARTNERS
Aïcha (Les Conserves de Meknès), Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles partner since 1997, is also a Cœur de Gazelles logistics partner.
Aïcha provides a truck for transporting the supplies, equipment and medicines needed by the caravan to the remote villages in southern Morocco.
Many of these isolated populations have no access to medical care, and some have never seen a doctor, because of the large distances between local towns. The Cœur de Gazelles caravan requires complex logistics and organization.
The other Cœur de Gazelles logistics partner is Dupessey, which provided 2 tractors and a semi-trailer to transport and distribute the 160 m3 of donations collected from the Gazelles at the Start Village.
We welcome the two Dupessey drivers, Alain et Hassan, to the Cœur de Gazelles team!
