Around the rally
The two Gazelles from Rabat make up one of this year’s Franco-Moroccan teams. On Wednesday March 20, Léa and Alia, will cross the start line of this 29th edition of the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc.
There are 3 Franco-Moroccan teams in this year’s Rallye. Léa and Alia, aged 26 and 32 respectively, are taking part for the first time in this 10-day event taking place in their country. They are proud and excited at the idea of driving in the Merzouga dunes: “This is our home, the Moroccan Sahara, and we’re lucky to have the chance to drive here, it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world.” This is more realistic than chauvinistic, as it is a fact that the desert offers a multitude of breathtaking landscapes and infinite horizons. “Everyone who has been there says the same thing: it blows them away.”
The Franco-Moroccans have dreamed of becoming Gazelles, especially since the Rallye is sponsored by several major Moroccan companies, such as Afriquia, Les Eaux Minérales d’Oulmès, 2M and Aïcha, the much-loved brand of jam and tomato sauce. “These are companies that we know and use every day. This event is in line with the King’s actions. It’s important for us that he support women around the world, and especially in his country.”
