Cœur de Gazelles
The dermatology unit
The dermatology unit is a small part of the medical caravan, but is no less important. It assists the GPs and paediatricians and provides more specialized diagnoses of diseases of the skin, subcutaneous tissue and mucous membranes.
The dermatologist, Ilham, often works in collaboration with the doctors, and assists the surgeons during simple surgeries on the skin.
He has a double role, as do all the volunteers: skin diseases are not uncommon in Morocco, because many people work outdoors under a strong sun. Ilham provides patients with advice to educate them about the risks and encourage them to adopt certain prevention habits.

How did you end up working with Cœur de Gazelles? “I got to know Cœur de Gazelles through one of my patients, who is a navigation instructor for the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles. I wanted to come for the humanitarian aspect: this mission allows me to get closer to the people, and I appreciate being able to meet their needs. The team and atmosphere are great.”
