Sisters Sihame and Amel are taking part in their first Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc in E-Gazelle VINCI Immobilier Class. They are proud to be the only Moroccan team in an electric vehicle.
“First, it’s a class that is in keeping with the times, and above all, we like a challenge and this is a challenge within the challenge. We’re competing with an unfamiliar vehicle, that we haven’t tested.”
The two Gazelles chose an electric buggy prototype: “It has the frame of a Bug, made by a small Vendée craftsman, but with a manual transmission.” Their vehicle has an autonomy of 200 kilometres and weighs 800 kg, 200 kg of which is the battery: “We have confidence in our vehicle. And we like it because it is very original: it looks like a little baby next to the big 4x4s.”
Sihame, a ski instructor, has a reputation as a go-getter, but during today’s Prologue, “we’re going to try to find the checkpoints, we’re confident, we did our navigation training yesterday, it’s still fresh in our minds. All that’s left is to put it into practice.”
