Off to discover the cauliflowers

Leg 2

Second leg and competition briefing. The Gazelles are adapting to their new rhythm. They are getting their maps ready and enjoying a Moroccan breakfast in the dining tent.

Feedback on Leg 1. It was long! Some teams got back to the bivouac at midnight. “Leg 1 wasn’t particularly difficult but it’s normal that you got back late, you need to get your bearings, the navigation was more difficult than in the Prologue.”

While helping push anther team out of the sand, Valérie of Team 184 (Alexandra MOULIN / Valérie DUPUY - GARAGE DUPUY) fell on a sand ladder, injured her knee and had to return to the bivouac. Nothing serious but, for the moment, Valérie and Alexandra will not be on the start line of Leg 2.

Sport Director Ludovic Taché, has some information about today’s leg. “This is the famous leg in the ‘cauliflowers’, a sort of sponge-like plant that is hard as a rock. I recommend taking your time over this type of terrain.”

The route forms a loop with an ideal distance of 165 kilometres. You will be following a section of paved road at the beginning so drive carefully. There will be planted fields near CP1 and CP9. You have 9 checkpoints to find.” There is a chance of rain at the end of the day, something new and a different challenge for the Gazelles…

#FreeNasrin

Dominique Serra has dedicated this 29th edition to Nasrin Sotoudeh – prominent Iranian lawyer and human rights advocate – who has been sentenced to 38 years in prison and 148 lashes for “inciting corruption and prostitution” by defending women who took off their headscarves in public.

I encourage everyone to sign the petition for her release.
